Stations of the Cross Activity for Kids

Supplies You’ll Need:

1 Egg Carton

15 Plastic Eggs (purple for Lent, or any color)

Sharpie

Small objects - symbolizing each station (see below)

Station 1: Jesus is condemned to death. (String – symbolizes Jesus’ hands being bound
Station 2: Jesus carries his cross. (Small cross)
Station 3: Jesus falls for the first time. (Band-aid w/ #1 written on it)

Station 4: Jesus meets his mother. (Miraculous Medal)
Station 5: Simon helps Jesus carry his cross. (Paper hand symbolizing Simon’s helping hands)
Station 6: Veronica wipes Jesus’ face. (Scrap of fabric)

Station 7: Jesus falls the second time. (Band-aid w/ #2 written on it)

Station 8: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem. (Tissue to dry tears)
Station 9: Jesus falls the third time. (Band-aid w/ #3 written on it)
Station 10: Jesus is stripped of his garments. (Piece of felt or cloth)
Station 11: Jesus is nailed to the cross. (Nail)

Station 12: Jesus dies on the cross. (Crucifix)
Station 13: Jesus is taken down from the cross. (Picture of Michaelangelo’s Pieta)
Station 14: Jesus is laid in the tomb. (Rock - symbolizes the stone sealing the tomb)

Instructions:

1. Print the Stations of the Cross.

2. Use a sharpie to label each plastic egg #1-15.

3. Place the small object symbolizing the station in each egg.

4.  As you pray the Stations of the Cross, have children open the egg to discover the symbol.  Discuss what each object symbolizes. 

5. Note: There are only 14 Stations of the Cross.  Leave Egg #15, “the Resurrection Egg”, empty as the tomb was empty!

6. Note: Don’t worry if you don’t have all the materials listed above.  Get creative and discuss what you could use to symbolize each station for your family’s Station of the Cross Set.

7.Bonus: Paint your egg carton purple and decorate!
